Think Fit. Be Fit.
Effective thinking for potent workouts

Think Fit. Be Fit. podcast is dedicated to optimizing exercise and overall human function.  It is best described as the intersection of exercise mechanics, muscle expertise, and embracing curiosity.  The human body is a wonderful teacher if you know how to listen to it, being open and having fun is part of that process.

Jennifer Schwartz, hostess and founder of Impact Your Fitness and Impact Sport Science Group has helped hundreds of athletes and people around Washington DC move without pain and exercise to their fullest potential.

This podcast is important because people are missing out on living a better life because they don't understand that body awareness is a combination of taking feedback, listening, and learning.  It is not a practice of self-judgement and societal expectations.  Don't choose unhappiness over uncertainty.  Embrace the process!

The FUN continues as Dr. Juris and Gregory peel away layers of the onion that is functional training.  They change the narrative on what it means to be functional, and explore the various available tools and modalities that can help enhance function.  They conclude by offering practical advice on designing truly functional solutions.  Listen to what lies beneath!

In part two of this episode the duo cuts to the chase and gets down to what really matters.   Ask yourself, when it comes to your strength and conditioning program, what actually matters?  Does spending our time performing funambulist challenges result in meaningful improvements in performance?  Or will improving strength, power and endurance ultimately make the difference?  Hint (it’s the latter).

Dr. J and GG introduce work by Dr. Wayne Wescott that supports their perspective.  GG shares a caveat to what makes an exercise functional from his perspective.   Finally the guys wrap up with suggestions on how to successfully incorporate exercises, of all sorts, from ones that appear to mimic sporting activities to the most isolated, single joint movements into routines that will build your most effective fitness eco-system.

In this episode Dr J. and GG discuss:

  • What it means to train functionally
  • The role of machines, and other tools, in creating functional outcomes
  • What replicating real-life movements may provide
  • Functional exercise through the lens of joint structure and mechanics
  • How to construct an effective functional training program
